Sebastian Kimura
General Manager

Sebastian has been a driving force at Mētis Construction since 2012, bringing close to 30 years of experience in commercial and residential construction across the country. After years of running his own general contracting firm, a chance meeting with Seattle based carpenters at Burning Man in 2005 eventually led him to Mētis, where he became a full-time employee in 2014. Sebastian played a role in the company’s 2016 transition to a 100% worker-owned trust, serving as a founding member-owner and taking part in the complex conversion process.
Sebastian has held nearly every role within the company—from Carpenter and Site Supervisor to Project Manager and Operations Manager. Technically, he is known for his ability to coordinate complex architectural and structural and mechanical components, manage adaptive reuse projects, and oversee the installation of specialized systems like multi-story kitchen hoods and elevators.
In early 2020, during a pivotal moment of transition for Mētis, Sebastian was named Interim President. Following a formal search and hiring process by the Board of Directors in late 2025, he was officially appointed General Manager. In this role, he oversees the Management Working Group and is now responsible for the overall performance, transparency, and fiduciary health of the organization.
Today, Sebastian’s focus has shifted from the field to the “Project called Mētis” itself. He is dedicated to creating the systems and structure necessary to ensure that Mētis remains a durable, intergenerational resource for the next generation of craftspeople.
